Divided Minds: Twin Sisters and Their Journey Through Schizophrenia - Carolyn and Pamela Spiro

Number of Pages: 318
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Date Of Original Publication: 2005
ISBN #:0-312-32064-7
Hey everyone. I just finished this non-fiction novel, which is rare for me, It’s called Divided Minds: Twin Sisters and Their Journey Through Schizophrenia. I read it for my AP Psychology class, it’s a very interesting read and fast paced.
The novel focus’s on two twins: Pamela and Carolyn and their lives as Pamela has Schizophrenia. The novel starts when they were kids and continues through the years until 2004.
I liked the book mainly for the twin affect. I have always admired twins and the their ability to know each other from the inside out. This novel shows how deep twin bonds can be deeply affected by mental illnesses and other factors of life, as well as the sides of twins that us outsiders normally don’t see: Twin Rivalry.
I would recommend this memoir to anyone who admires psychology, twins, or just the schizophrenia factor. It is an easy read and it is well organized. The only thing that I did not like about this book is the odd transitions. Sometimes it is hard to understand what is being illustrated, for example: What’s being said by Pamela, thought by Pamela, or seen by Pamela through the schizophrenia, other then that I think this novel is definitely a good read. Check it out! I did from the local library! ;)
5 out of 5 for pure entertainment and the fast paced scenes!
I will try and get my next book review up as soon as possible. Thank you for reading. If you have any suggestions, comments, or concerns for me, let me know, or just simply want to talk to me. I will do book requests. You can send me a message to me on here or E-Mail me at: TeamBellisle@yahoo.com

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe

Number of Pages: 179
Publisher: Holt, Rinehart, and Winston
Date Of Original Publication: 1958
ISBN #:0-03-055438-1
Hey everyone. I understand that it’s been a while since my last post but I have a busy life and I’m really trying to get through all the books that I’m currently reading. Hope you all have had a good February! I just finished this African Literature book for my World Literature class titled “Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe who is from Africa and is now the African studies professor at Brown University. As much as the African tribal facts were entertaining, the book itself was just dry.
The main character lives in a town known as Umuofia, his name is Okonkwo, and he has three wives. He’s known as a warrior and a leader to the people yet towards the middle of the novel things start to go very wrong for him…hence the title Things Fall Apart.
This novel just bothered me in so many ways. In Okonkwo’s world more then one wife is acceptable…that’s against my beliefs. Another thing that’s okay in his world is to beat his wives…another thing that’s against my beliefs. He disowns his son for changing religions…not okay with me. And his arrogance is just annoying to the reader at times.
I thought the book was very informational when it came to Umuofia’s tradition’s and practices, yet very dry when it came to the actual storyline. The concept was a bit repetitive and the storyline seemed to just go nowhere in development, it just ended with the typical well-to-do deal. I’m not a fan of this novel and I would not recommend it. For a book that’s only 179 pages long and not very well developed I have to think that the author shouldn’t be as good as he’s become.
Yet I remind you, this is my opinion on the book. You are perfectly free to read it and give your opinion on it, in the mean time I’m only giving this book a 2.
2 out of 5 for a moving yet undeveloped storyline.
I will try and get my next book review up as soon as possible. Thank you for reading. If you have any suggestions, comments, or concerns for me, let me know, or just simply want to talk to me. You can send me a message to me on here or E-Mail me at: TeamBellisle@yahoo.com

Darker After Midnight by Lara Adrian (Book 10)

Number of Pages: 369
Publisher: The Random House
Date Of Original Publication: 2012
ISBN #:978-0-345-53087-5
Words can’t even begin to tell you about how excited I was to read this one! Darker After Midnight is book 10 of one of my top favorite series, and it is totally worth the read! Lara Adrian did a fantastic job on the tenth installment to the Order of the Midnight Breed series! I do for sure recommend this book to all. But read the first nine before hand otherwise it wont make sense. It’s fast paced, and filled with non stop action and romance. If you are looking for a series to read jump on this one! Especially if you are a vampire fan!
Darker After Midnight is told from Sterling Chase’s viewpoint as well as the incredible new character, Tavia Fairchild. The two have a few rough patches in the start yet can’t keep away from each other all the way until the end. The two move the entire series to a finale that is definitely worth the read.
Adrian added in a few new concepts and changed a few of her character’s viewpoints on life..hint: Lucan. I won’t give too much away but it is definitely worth the read! This book wraps up the main storyline that has taken place from the start of the first book.
The next book is said to be based around Mira, a child character. I’m guessing Adrian is moving the story ahead a few years and creating a new issue set-up for the Order. I’m not sure when this book is due to be out nor am I aware of the title of it but I’ll keep updates.
This book definitely receives a 5 out of 5 from me.
I will try and get my next book review up as soon as possible. Thank you for reading. If you have any suggestions, comments, or concerns for me, let me know, or just simply want to talk to me. You can send me a message to me on here or E-Mail me at: TeamBellisle@yahoo.com

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson

Number of Pages: 644
Publisher: Vintage Crime/Black Lizard
Date Of Original Publication: 2005
ISBN #: 978-0-307-47347-9
Hey everyone. I’m going to start changing the layout of how I do my book reviews. Only slightly. I’ll start adding in the additional information in which you see above this text and beneath the cover picture and I’ll try and not too give away too many controversial ideas and opinions on the novels.
I just finished the novel “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” which happens to be the first of three published, ten manuscript-ed crime novels by Stieg Larsson, known as the Millennium Series. Larsson was only able to write three before his untimely death. His publishers however have the last seven manuscripts and is considering publishing them in book form written by someone else.
This book is a good read however it took me a long time to finish it. Probably because it’s a long book and I read so many other books at the same exact time that it lays around for a while.
This novel is a crime novel based around two main characters: Mikael Blomkvist, a journalist and head founder of a Stockholm magazine known as Millennium; and a computer hacker and tom boy named Lisbeth Salander. Mikael finds himself in a spot of trouble with the Swedish court system and lands himself in an expensive position. He is on the brink of having his bank account cleared when a very well known owner of a corporation offers him a job in which would pay him an incredibly large sum of money. This job is to not only write a family biography but also solve the mystery of a disappearance that occurred in the family many years before. The case becomes very complex and Blomkvist acquires Salander to help him.
The novel starts out very slow and I’ll admit, for me it was hard to get interested in. The storyline doesn’t really kick in and get fast paced until around page 300. This novel requires a lot of patience from the reader and is very time consuming with facts, you have to really pay attention to take in all the details.
If you are one for crime novels this is a must read. If you can handle the slow paced setting as well as the numerous sexual encounters throughout the novel I’d definitely tell you to give this book a shot. Larsson is a great author, however for those of you who read in English such as I, I should warn you… this novel was originally published in Swedish and was translated a few years later, some of the grammar is incorrect but not too bad that you’ll be frustrated throughout the entire novel, it’s more towards the end but if you’re picky like I am, you will notice it.
I also went and saw the American version of the film and found it to be a really good movie, really entertaining, good casting, and it went right along with the story line. If you like Daniel Craig you’ll love this movie and I would recommend seeing this movie for sure! Read the book first however.
I would rate this book a 4.5 out of 5. Taking .5 off for the slow start.
I will try and get my next book review up as soon as possible. Thank you for reading. If you have any suggestions, comments, or concerns for me, let me know, or just simply want to talk to me. You can send me a message to me on here or E-Mail me at: TeamBellisle@yahoo.com

PS: Darker After Midnight, the 10th installment to Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed Series, comes out in three days, on the twenty-fourth!
P.P.S: My youngest turtle (out of five) is named Lisbeth…Lizzy for short, after Salander.
The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood

So you know when a teacher/professor tells you that you’re going to be doing something that you’ve done before and not liked and you all groan? Well my twelfth grade English teacher one day in mid December told us that we were going to start reading a novel known as “The Penelopiad”. I didn’t think much of it. Until he said who it was by: Margaret Atwood. I have read another novel by her in the previous year, known as: A handmaid’s tale. Absolutely hated the novel, hated her style of writing, as well as her philosophy of life.
This novel didn’t turn out to be as I thought it was going to. It’s slightly humorous. If you don’t know anything about Greek and Roman mythology I would recommend doing some research before and during reading this novel. The novel is narrated by Penelope, the wife of Odysseus. For those of you who have read “The Odyssey” Then you should know exactly who these two are.
The novel is told from Penelope’s point of view, yet also the maids in which Oddyseus eventually murders. During the novel Penelope tells her story of her life and how and what has become of it. She tells this story from the afterlife looking back. It’s slow paced yet always moving in some way shape or form and it’s slightly confusing when they change between past and present.
I thought that this novel was well written, yet not good enough for someone who is known as a great classical writer of our time. I don’t know how Atwood was given this title, for she seems nothing more then an average writer to me. I know that she has won the booker prize but I still don’t think she deserves so much merit.
I would rate this book a 3.5 out of 5. Just for the entertainment factor.
Alright. I’m currently reading two novels. Not so sure how fast I can get them done with work and classes, yet next semester I only have three classes. So I should have more free time. See you all later!
PS: 12 more days until the 10th novel of Lara Adrian’s The Midnight Breed. I will review “Darker After Midnight” as soon as I finish.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding

Hey guys. Quick update for you all. I know I haven’t been on in a while. I’ve been very busy with work and school. So I’m throwing two book reviews at you in one day, yup that’s right, two.
For this post the novel is William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. This is one of those that I was required to read for my 12th grade English class and this simply still confuses me. This book is a very easy level read. I’d say this is more like an 8th grade level novel yet I’ll give you the rundown on my views none the less:
The storyline pretty much goes as this: A plane carrying a bunch of young annoying boys crashes on a remote island in the middle of no where. They select the leader and then they have issues with agreeing on things, which leads to fights and kid drama which is really slightly annoying.
I found this story to be too far fetched. No plane has all male minors on it and randomly crashes into an island in the middle of nowhere. Anyone get the premises for ABC’s LOST? Just kidding. That show was awful. I thought that the characters were not very well developed and that Golding tried too hard to make the characters personalities’ clash.
I would rate this book 3 out of 5.
Well I’m off to write the next reviews. This one and the next one aren’t going to be very good and I apologize. I just didn’t like the books and it wasn’t an optional read. I’m sure you all understand.
Deeper Than Midnight by Lara Adrian

Alright I finished the ninth book to Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed Series this morning…Deeper Than Midnight was slow I thought but it had key points that were necessary to the series.
This book is based not only on a new couple, but it brings back Lucan’s point of view and Sterling’s. The couple featured in this addition to the series is the Gen One Assassin known as hunter and Brock’s ex love, Corinne Bishop. The novel bases more on the corruption in the human government as well as the breed world government, than the other books which was more on personal affects of Dragos’s regime.
This book has mellow action yet major drama. Towards the end a few upsetting events happen and the ending is not a happy one. I really can’t give a summary on this without saying too much and giving it away…Just know that the end is a major cliffhanger and a sad endeavor for one of the members of the Order…or ex rather, yet still friend….I am sad because her tenth book has not yet been released and I cannot wait for it!!
I’d rate this book a 4.5 out of 5.
So..Book ten, Darker After Midnight, aka Sterling Chase’s book does not come out in stores until January 24th, 2012, which means I need a new book series to review. I’m going to start reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward…unfortunately I’m the 8th person in the que so I have to wait a while. Which means Ill just review a book while waiting. Ill surprise you all with something.
Taken by Midnight by Lara Adrian

I finished reading this novel a few hours ago. Honestly I’m not really sure how to write a review on this one…This is Taken by Midnight…Book eight to Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series…It was very very different from the previous seven. It kept your attention yet had a few turning points that were just odd. The ending is a happy one.
This storyline is based on the Detroit born warrior, Brock and his feelings for a not-so-human woman named Jenna. Jenna is the best friend of Kade’s new breedmate, Alex. This is basically how they meet. I will not give too much away about Jenna but I will tell you all that it’s a creepy scenario.
I think this novel was good, yet a bit dull at times. There wasn’t too much violence and the other characters weren’t prevalent as much as in the other novels. I really wish she’d put more of Lucan/Gabrielle and Tegan/Elise in her books. But that’s a personal vendetta of mine.
It was still overal a good piece to the series, it took you through more of the outside story line rather then the intimite personal lives of the warriors as was portrayed in the seventh book, “Shades of Midnight”.
I rate this book a 4 out of 5.
Sorry this won’t be one of my better reviews. I am very tired. I just got a job, I start tomorrow and I’ll be a little bit more tired and stressed as the weeks coming up roll by. Somehow I will have to find time to start reading the ninth book to Lara Adrian’s series, “Deeper than Midnight”. Goodbye for now everyone.
Shades of Midnight by Lara Adrian

Wow, I honestly can’t believe how fast I read this book! Shades of Midnight, the seventh book to Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series was very captivating. At first I was kind of taken aback to it being based in Alaska…I mean it’s Alaska. But It was a great book through and through.
This story line was based on one of the newer recruits, Kade, who has to return to his homeland despite personal reasons for not wanting to go back, and a flight woman named Alexandra Maguire. It’s based in the cold month of November in the wintry state of Alaska.
I thought this book was good, yet I’m still not sure it’s a favorite. It is captivating and the end is a tear jerker (to me personally). It shows the value of family as well as the love of animals. Lara Adrian’s message was quite clear in this novel, more so then the first six.
This novel wasn’t as violent as the last one yet it was much more in depth with character relationship and development. It keeps you reading right until the last page. I would recommend this book to anyone. Oh and any Floridians out there? Haha I won’t give away too much in this. I try not too in my book reviews.
I’d give this book a 5 out of 5 for sure.
I’m going to get off now and finish watching the first Vikings preseason game against the Tenessee Titans and then start book 8, Taken by Midnight. GO VIKINGS!!!
Ashes of Midnight by Lara Adrian

Hey everyone what’s new?
I finished reading Ashes of Midnight, the sixth book to Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series. Which of course is an amazing series that I’ve bugged you all about in my previous five posts.
However I found this one to be a bit slower then the first five. It was slow paced and gritty at points. I was a bit disappointed to find out at first that it wasn’t based around one of the warriors, but instead on Andreas Reichen. Yet Adrian still managed to incorporate the Order into the novel.
The story line is based between a hate filled Andreas Reichen, whos destined to cast vengeance on Willhelm Roth, and Willhelm Roth’s breedmate, Claire Roth, who happens to be Andreas’s first love. Andreas seeks her by fate and is stuck with her till the end where he nearly gets killed. The novel is great for action and has a surprising twist at the end.
This was not my favorite book in the series (I loved Midnight Awakening with Elise and Tegan), but I still will recommend it and it is a must read if you wish to continue on with the series. If you read these books out of order it would be really confusing. If you are unaccustomed to reading graphic things such as some of the things portrayed in this novel, don’t crack the spine.
I give this book a 3.5 out of 5.
Well I’m off to finish watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and then on to reading book 7, Shades of Midnight. Catch up on everyone later. Happy August!
